After decades of baking everything from cookies to decadent, rich desserts, Christine decided to form Sweet Treats by Christine, LLC in early 2019. She always had the idea in the back of her mind and was further inspired after increasing compliments and requests for her baked goods. Baking was relaxing and a way to wind down from the day-to-day demands of her career, motherhood and everyday life. Christine’s husband, family and close friends encouraged her to start a business. After all, she spent all of her free time baking anyway!
The goal was simple: To spend time doing something she truly enjoyed and to deliver homemade, delicious treats to more people in the area. After some research into setting up a home food processor business and help from her friend that just so happened to be an experienced attorney, presto, the business was formed!
Christine learned the skill of baking, as well as the joy of sharing delicious treats with others, at a young age. Growing up as a first-generation Italian – where food was the go-to in every situation – it was impossible not to spend a lot of time in the kitchen with her mother and other family members. At first, her mother put her in charge of small jobs like squeezing lemons or putting the sprinkles on top of wet icing, but little by little, she mastered many of the recipes her mother taught her.
Over the years, Christine tried new recipes and modified others. After she had her two children, she began using many organic ingredients as well. It always baffled her to turn over a box of cookies or cake and read how many ingredients were included. Ingredients she had never heard of or, in some cases, couldn’t even pronounce! If she didn’t want her children eating that stuff, she suspected that other parents felt the same.
For Sweet Treats by Christine, she decided to hold true to that concept and no additional colors or preservatives are added, ingredients are never frozen, and the lemon juice is squeezed from real lemons, not poured from a bottle. If cocoa trees could thrive in the area, she’d probably make her own chocolate from scratch!
